Think before you act

Sun Tzu opens the book with a warning: war decides whether a nation lives or dies. That’s why no one should go into it without thinking.

The same goes for changing jobs, starting a business or buying a house.

Before acting, he says to compare five things: the purpose that holds the group together, the timing, the place, who leads and how things are organized.

Before you act, compare your strengths with what the situation demands.
